"Then the engine wouldn"t start and we had to land on the freeway. Traffic was light, and I picked a spot between traffic."

The Cessna 172 rolled about 100 feet and stopped near the Sparks Boulevard overpass.

The landing caused no injuries or accidents, Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chuck Allen said.

Durousseau said he was trying to switch from one fuel tank to another when the engine went out and would not restart.

He was upset only because his tail wheel broke and a wing tip and rudder were damaged.

Durousseau had flown the group from Dyer in Southern Nevada but was prevented from landing in Reno by fog.

He headed for a nearby airport at Fernley but was called back to Reno-Tahoe International Airport as the weather cleared.

Officials estimated he had enough fuel to support 40 minutes of flying from the tank he was using, when he tried to switch to the reserve supply.

Durousseau was calm when interviewed by police and news media, as passengers Joan and Aimee Abittan and Tamara Anderson, recovered their luggage.

"It was totally fine," Anderson said. "It was just an emergency landing that happened like it should have.

"It was unusual for sure. I"ve never done that before."

The aircraft remained beside the Sparks Boulevard overpass for several hours, with one westbound lane open.

A crew was scheduled to move the plane on a trailer to Stead Airport, Allen said.

Officials for the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration were at the scene.

The FAA registry shows Durousseau owns the airplane built in 1957.

"I just saw an opening in the traffic and slowed down," Durousseau told KRNV-TV in Reno.

He said the cars behind him slowed and those ahead sped up.

"It created a nice spot to come in," he said. "Everyone did a nice job."

Durousseau said his passengers had been at a dental clinic as part of the volunteer Flying Doctors programme, a California-based nonprofit organisation that provides health care and education in rural villages throughout Mexico and Central America.

The group uses volunteer pilots to transport teams of medical professionals and volunteers on monthly trips to rural medical, dental and optometry clinics.

A pilot for 30 years, Durousseau has flown for the agency for four years and said his passengers were returning from a dental clinic.

Anderson is a trip coordinator for the organisation"s Truckee chapter.

In 2006, Durousseau led the fire department"s Urban Search and Rescue Team when it went through the Mizpah Hotel after a Halloween night arson that killed 12. He also headed water entry and trench rescue teams for the department and is a volunteer with the sheriff"s office"s Search and Rescue team, officials said.

National Trust warns of not-so-rosy destiny for British gardens

Chris Smyth & , : {}

The traditional British garden could be ravaged by climate change, the National Trust said yesterday, as it produced paintings showing how hotter summers may fry herbaceous borders, while wet winters could rot spring bulbs.

It released a picture showing what 2C hotter could look like orange trees replace rose bushes, while palms push out foxgloves.

The trust, which today is launching an exhibition about what could be lost if temperatures rise significantly, said that lupins, delphiniums, hyacinths and tulips were most at risk.

The trust cites research from the Met Office suggesting that a 2C rise could make the climate in southern England similar to south west France, while a 4C rise could expose gardens to conditions more like southern Portugal.

Trees like beeches and chestnuts could also suffer, while traditional orchards could be replaced by nectarines or even bananas, the Trust suggests.

The paintings, in which the bucolic scenery of today is replaced by parched scrubland, were produced by the Gloucestershire artist Rob Collins for the Plant in Time exhibition, which will tour Trust properties around the country.

The historic plant collections in National Trust gardens are the horticultural equivalent of the collections in our national galleries and museums, the gardener Alan Titchmarsh said.

The exhibition has some positive messages about what we can all do to help secure the future of the plants that make our gardens so special.

Mike Calnan, the National Trusts head of gardens and parks, said that the exhibition was a wake-up call to how changes in our climate could threaten our great horticultural collections and ultimately the character of the British garden.

He said that while there was a great awareness of the potential impacts on polar bears, ice sheets and ice caps, this exhibition is a gentle reminder that this amazing heritage here in the trust is equally under threat.

Climate change is possibly going to shunt gardens into a different climatic zone, he warned.

The extent to which future generations can continue to enjoy [the trusts gardens] is partly dependent on how we all act today. Theres no better place to start making a difference to the environment than in our own gardens.

The trust is currently studying plants at 80 gardens to assess what is most at risk and how vulnerable species can be helped to survive.

A 2C rise is considered likely by the end of the century and bigger temperature increases are thought possible if global emissions are not cut.

Kraft could be only the beginning

Mark Kleinman: In commercial operation & , : {}

The MPs who castigated management team from Kraft over the American food groups takeover of Cadbury competence wish to hope for for some-more of the same.

With made at home partnership wake up vexed by domestic doubt and a miss of distinctness over such vicious issues as the stroke of a withdrawal of quantitative easing, MA bankers are pinning their hopes on a fibre of unfamiliar takeovers of British companies in the months ahead, fuelled by the debility of sterling.

So whats on their list of impending deals? Following the 1.2 billion proceed by Deutsche Bahn, the German rail operator, for Arriva, the UK counterpart, City rainmakers are right away reviving speak of a move for Kingfisher, the DIY retailer, by Home Depot of the US.

They are additionally (unsuccessfully, I suspect) penetrating to operative a counterclaim services counterbid for VT Group from Lockheed Martin, and a resuscitation of GDF Suezs seductiveness in International Power.

Few of these deals would excite the same kind of romantic reply as the takeover of Cadbury, but they would paint a serve send of tenure of critical British companies in to unfamiliar hands.

For Peter Luff, MP, the authority of the Business, Innovation and Skills Select Committee, and for policymakers with increasingly protectionist instincts, a inclusive renovate of takeover manners could probably not come shortly enough.

Talk about a prohibited streak. JCA, the headhunting organisation founded by January Hall, has landed the plum pursuit of recruiting a new authority at Marks Spencer. Thats on the behind of mandates to find arch management team for easyJet and Ladbrokes, both of that will be voiced in the subsequent couple of weeks.

The MS play preference to designate JCA is frequency surprising:

it was Ms Hall who cumulative the signature of Marc Bolland, the former Wm Morrison boss, to turn the companys subsequent arch executive.

Now, with courtesy branch to the temperament of the inheritor of Sir Stuart Rose as chairman, multiform names are already rising as intensity front-runners. These embody Niall FitzGerald, the former Unilever boss, and Sir Roy Gardner, the authority of Compass. But the majority appealing early claimant is Roger Carr, who not long ago stepped down as authority of Cadbury.

From one sell boardroom to another. I assimilate that Ocado, the online grocer, is close to appointing Ruth Anderson, a former vice-chairman of KPMG, the veteran services firm, as a non-executive director.

Ms Anderson, a taxation specialist, will stick on David Grigson, the former financial executive of Reuters, as new recruits to the Ocado house prior to a probable batch marketplace inventory after in the year.

Microsoft has proposed rolling out the browser list Technology

Browser preference screen

Some less well well known browsers underline on Microsoft"s list screen

Up to 200m Windows Personal Computer users in Europe will be presented with a "Web browser preference screen" shade in a intrigue that helped solve the European Commission"s anti-trust complaints opposite Microsoft. Following the agreement, Microsoft deserted plans to boat boxed copies of Windows 7 in Europe but a browser at all.

Windows users who allow to Microsoft"s programmed Windows Update have make make make make make make use of of of of of of of and who have set Internet Explorer as their default browser will be sent a shade that offers them a preference of twelve browsers, together with IE, with the tip five presented first, in pointless order*. They can afterwards ask for some-more report from each browser"s developer, or click a symbol to implement yes or no browser they like.

European Personal Computer users who don"t have make make make make make make use of of of of of of of the programmed refurbish have make make make make make make use of of of of of of of will be stirred to download the browser preference screen. However, security consultant Graham Cluley from Sophos, an anti-virus company, has already warned that "cybercriminals competence try to take value of this beginning by formulating fraudulent browser preference screens that could cocktail up on trusting users" PCs and potentially lead them to a antagonistic download".

Malware writers already have make make make make make make use of of of of of of of feign Windows rapt screens and popups to try to convince users to implement viruses and feign anti-virus software.

According to an Ipsos MORI consult commissioned by Mozilla, that offers the Firefox web browser, about 3 buliding of Europe"s Windows users are unknowingly of the change.

The browser preference charity thus seems expected to emanate difficulty and distrurbance between a little typical Personal Computer users. It will positively cost companies income in conditions of IT dialect await time, as staff check either the shade is legitimate.

Windows users have regularly been means to download pick browsers: Netscape, that begat the open source Mozilla Firefox, used to have about 80% of the market. However, the list shade is dictated to have certain that Europe"s Windows users know they have a preference of browser, and that they don"t have to have make make make make make make use of of of of of of of IE simply given it is enclosed in Windows.

The list could progress the marketplace shares of browsers such as Avant, Flock, GreenBrowser, Maxthon, Sleipnir and Slim, that majority typical Windows users have probably never listened of. However, majority of these have make make make make make make use of of of of of of of the same Microsoft formula to describe web pages as IE8.

The EU box was kick-started by Opera, the Norwegian association that offers the slightest renouned of the "big five" desktop browsers. According to usage-based total from Net Applications, IE now has the largest tellurian marketplace share with 61.6%, forward of Mozilla Firefox (24.2%), Google Chrome (5.6%), Apple Safari (4.5%), and Opera (2.4%). It is conspicuous that Firefox has completed 10 times Opera"s marketplace share.

Net Applications" total additionally show IE"s marketplace share disappearing usually from 77.4% dual years ago to 61.6% today. In particular, the have make make make make make make use of of of of of of of of the out of date and less standards-compliant IE6, that shipped with Windows XP in 2001, has depressed from 44.4% to 19.8%. (It"s doubtful that Net Applications" numbers are utterly accurate, but both Microsoft and Mozilla allude to them.)

Alternative browsers have been some-more successful in Europe than the tellurian total competence suggest. As we reported last week, usage-based census interpretation from Statcounter, Microsoft"s IE has a 45.4% marketplace share in Europe, followed by Mozilla Firefox (39.3%), Google Chrome (6.4%), Opera (4.3%), and Apple"s Safari (3.7%).

It varies by country. In the post, Mozilla pronounced IE"s marketplace share was usually "27.8% in Italy according to Net Applications interpretation for Jan 2010".

Although the list shade seems expected to progress the have make make make make make make use of of of of of of of of pick browsers competing for marketplace share on Windows, it will not essentially furnish a turn personification field. For example, Apple bundles Safari with Mac OS X, and the drawn out have make make make make make make use of of of of of of of of iTunes gives it a approach to foster it to Windows users. Google uses the market-dominating web poke page to foster the own Chrome browser. Also, majority smartphones -- where Opera competes with the Opera Mini -- come with a default browser: Safari on iPhones and Chrome on Google Android phones.

* Rob Weir has supposing an in-depth comment of how it isn"t as pointless as it could be in Doing the Microsoft Shuffle: Algorithm Fail in Browser Ballot. Whether or not this is to Microsoft"s value or Google"s (since Chrome appears some-more mostly than IE as the initial choice in IE) is open to debate. In any case, the formula are opposite when utilizing opposite browsers.

Jose Mourinho ignites fight of difference prior to Inter Milan-Chelsea tie | Chelsea

Matt Hughes, Deputy Football Correspondent & , : {}

Jos Mourinho has selected the eve of his initial assembly with Chelsea given withdrawal Stamford Bridge 2 years ago to launch a thinly potential dispute on his former club.

The Inter Milan physical education instructor attempted to explain all the credit for Chelseas growth in to a heading European force and indicted Roman Abramovich of signing the wrong players prior to he took over as physical education instructor in 2004.

Any confront in in between Mourinho and Abramovich tomorrow night at San Siro, where Inter fool around Chelsea in the initial leg of their Champions League round-of-16 tie, is expected to be a glacial affair.

Mourinhos attribute with Abramovich began to mellow as a outcome of a strife over send process in Jan 2007. Mourinho longed for solitary carry out and was mad when the owners prevented him from signing a centre behind during the send window to yield cover for the harmed John Terry, formulating a source of dispute that resulted in the managers depart eight months later.

Mourinhos attribute with the Russian billionaire has softened given he left Chelsea and the span often sell content messages, but a small wounds have not healed.

The Portuguese is never far from debate he was handed a three-match done at home touchline anathema yesterday after creation a shackles gesticulate towards the officials during Inters compare opposite Sampdoria on Saturday, when his group had dual players sent off and views himself, rather than Abramovich, as executive to all Chelseas success.

They won five heading trophies during his 3 years in charge, together with unbroken joining titles, but he is incompetent to censor his disregard for a small of the players he inherited, such as Adrian Mutu, Juan Sebastián Verón and Hernán Crespo, who were shortly off-loaded.

Mourinhos initial signing was Mateja Kezman, who done small stroke and was sole to Atltico Madrid after one season, but he prefers to stop the contributions of Paulo Ferreira and Ricardo Carvalho, who sojourn at the club.

Chelsea currently is the effect of what I built up, Mourinho said. They havent lost what I did for the bar and how I done history. Before I arrived they paid for the wrong players. I brought in Ricardo Carvalho and Paulo Ferreira since I indispensable them for specific positions and I knew the players.

Mourinhos integrity to discharge Chelsea does not open usually from a enterprise to infer a point, since he additionally has a measure to solve with Carlo Ancelotti.

The span clashed regularly during the deteriorate they common as rivals in Italy, with Mourinho vituperation at what he viewed to be the favoured diagnosis AC Milan perceived as the investiture bar and Ancelotti expressing contempt for Mourinhos overacting and swindling theories.

Ancelotti, who took over as Chelsea physical education instructor in Jun last year, has additionally taken difference to Mourinhos new robe of claiming credit for all Chelseas successes. I dont know [what Mourinho is saying], since I think that Chelsea had a illusory deteriorate additionally after he was there, Ancelotti said. Avram Grant did illusory work here and [led Chelsea to] the Champions League final.

I never pronounced he is my friend. We didnt go to eat together and to splash booze together. Usually when you go to eat and to splash one, two, 3 eyeglasses of wine, customarily you have a great relationship, but we didnt.

It is no complaint since I will eat this dusk and he will eat the same. In Italy we are not used to celebration booze after matches, but when he comes to England, may be it will be no problem. It could be a great impulse to urge the friendship.

For all his written sparring, Mourinho stays close to multiform of his former charges, quite Frank Lampard. He is a player from an additional world, Mourinho said.

The series of goals he scores from midfield, the series of games he plays but injuries, but suspensions, his consistency, generally his consistency, have him an considerable player. He is incredible.

Grudge compare - the fight of difference in in between Mourinho and Ancelotti

Jos Mourinho Do I miss Ancelotti? No. I am never friends with my colleagues. There are those who are good and others who are not.

I regularly have my own formation. Its never told to me. There are majority coaches [who are told what to do] who have won the Champions League a couple of times. Carlo is one of them. He is additionally the usually one to have lost a last after being 3-0 up.

Ancelotti is the usually one who thinks Adrianos idea was a handball. Does he think we are all dumb? Perhaps he is reticent when he fails to verbalise about Ronaldinhos offside idea in the initial derby when they won.

Ancelotti is forgetful that one of Milans majority mythological managers, Arrigo Sacchi, never played to any higher customary than me. And my dentist is great, even though hes never had a toothache.

Carlo Ancelotti I have friends outward of football. Mourinho is only a co-worker who I respect. Friends? He is not my friend.

If Mourinho is Jesus, afterwards I am positively not one of his apostles.

Mourinho? I am not preoccupied by his celebrity when he communicates. Sometimes he says invalid things. I concentration on work.

Is Mourinho up for my pursuit at Milan? Weve already found someone to reinstate [Alessandro] Costacurta, but if marry well known earlier, we could have found him a job. Helping the goalkeeper coach? No, hes never played football, he wouldnt be able of sharpened on goal.
